Official GOTR Policy - Ceasefires

  • This is a short public service announcement detailing GOTR's stance on "ceasefires".

TLDNR: We do not officially condone or support "ceasefires" between empires.

Ghosts of the Revolution does not officially condone or support "ceasefires" between empires.

Recently, command elements between the three empires have attempted to call "ceasefires" when two empires would benefit from warpgating the third (as in the case of, if the TR have Indar, the NC and VS might try to team up to neutralize the benefit). Such ceasefires generally include protecting each others' AMS placements, providing ammunition and cover fire, and purposefully ignoring enemy targets on the "allied" empire.

Our outfit does not for any reason support this kind of ceasefire between us and any other empire or outfit unless it is a planned outfit event. However, tactically, we understand that teaming up on an empire to remove their benefit is a worthy cause and we will gladly give that empire target priority and avoid hitting targets of the other empire if possible - but we make no promises.

If other elements or outfits of the VS enter into a ceasefire with the NC or TR, that is their prerogative, not ours. You are to POLITELY declare in /leader chat or /orders chat that Ghosts of the Revolution does not participate in ceasefires and will kill any enemy on sight, as per the rules of the game. Please be respectful when doing so and do not get in shouting matches with other outfits, just ignore them, though you may continue to repeat in /yell, /orders, or /leader that GOTR is not participating in the ceasefire.

We will, as the Third Pillar provides, not kill any fellow VS for fraternizing with the enemy, even though we may want to. We have standards.

Carry on.

Thank god, participating in ceasefires is one of the dumbest things going on in this game at the moment. It's a 3 faction game for a reason!

Thank you for the clarification, Robo.

"POLITELY"

Perhaps we can hit a different target if this comes up again, one where we don't see the empire our VSA members have a temporary alliance with.

In the context of what you said, I think the following edits would be more clear:

"However, tactically strategically, we understand that teaming up on an empire to remove their benefit is a worthy cause and we will gladly give that empire target tactical priority and avoid hitting targets assaulting bases of the other empire if possible - but we make no promises."

A target is something to be destroyed ("... will kill any enemy on sight, as per the rules of the game").  :)

Just to clear this up. Is this a direct command that ALL GOTR members MUST shoot on sight even when not partaking in any form of op? Because I personally like partaking in these events as I personally find it fun and a really intresting dynamic.

In other words is me being in GOTR going to prevent me from playing in a way I find enjoyable?

It didn't sound like you can't continue doing what you're doing: "we will gladly give that empire target priority and avoid hitting targets of the other empire if possible - but we make no promises."

If you're not in an op, you can do what you want. I'm not going to tell you that you MUST shoot enemies on your own time, that's your prerogative.

Now that Indar got neutralized though, I doubt this will flare up again any time soon.

This is news to me... All non-VS have ALWAYS been K.O.S. to me (hey, certs are certs) and always will be unless otherwise informed by an Officer or Robo himself.

Teaming up...ish, in the sense of staying out of each-other's way (ish) so that we (does English even have an equivalent word to "vous" from French?) don't have to shoot each other (as much), to achieve a goal is one of the most interesting dynamics in the game. I for one want to see more of that, even so far as huge dynamic events that would turn a heated battle between two factions into a sudden desperate battle against some other threat. Rarely this might happen when the third faction shows-up.

It'd be pretty damn cool though if something like a giant worm a la Dune popped-up sometimes in the desert during a heated engagement and what was once a batter to take a base is now a battle to survive long enough to take the base after it's done ripping everyone to shreds.

It's an interesting dynamic that reflects conflict in real life. The UK and USA really, REALLY did NOT like Stalin, Lenin, nor Bolshevik Russia, but the Axis powers were a serious threat, and the USSR had bodies, which were desperately needed to fend-off the Axis advance. When WWII ended, we split the land and went straight back to suspicion and utter contempt for each other.

You won't find me in the midst of a bunch of TR or NC and not killing them, but I certainly would try to stay out of the way if warpgating a common foe is a more important task at the time.

The only time I really see the benefit in a "ceasefire" is when 2 empires are massively outpopped by another, and even then.. I'd probably still shoot to kill on pure reflex
